A unique Reggio-inspired preschool with locations throughout Lower Manhattan
Preschool of the Arts is a Reggio-Emilia and RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers)-oriented early childhood program that emphasizes respect for all children, the power of beautiful learning environments, and the importance of well-trained, passionate educators who love working with children from birth to five years old. For the past 20 years, lower Manhattan families have trusted us to inspire learning through the arts and Judaism, and to bring together a parent community where children make life-long friends.
Our Infant Program provides a warm, nurturing start for children as young as three months, with individualized care that supports each milestone from tummy time to first steps. Through meaningful interactions, sensory play, music, and story time, our teachers spark curiosity while fostering early social, emotional, and language development. Parents can feel confident knowing their child is growing in a safe, loving environment designed just for them.
The children in our Toddler Transitions Program experience a fully hands-on early childhood learning program where teachers provide them with the loving and nurturing environment necessary for infants, while simultaneously beginning to imbue greater sophistication into their curriculum. Children begin to engage in sensory experiences, learn songs, create art, have exposure to science, and participate in story-telling in a deeper and more multifaceted manner.
Our 2-year-old program is designed to harness the joy and excitement that accompanies turning two. Children develop language, increased attention span and greater physical capabilities in one fell swoop. POTA is there to provide the environment and program that matches and supports these newfound abilities. Our program helps children pursue and embrace greater autonomy and provides flexibility of choice. When our two-year-olds make choices and take appropriate risks, they begin to find their individual voices. Children are surrounded by interesting, relevant, and thought-provoking materials that spark creativity and prompt them to develop a vocabulary with which to communicate, make comments, and ask questions.
Our 3-year-olds are ready to reach new heights. They are beginning to form deeper bonds with their peers. Through hands-on experiences, they expand their understanding of the world while developing critical-thinking, social, and pre-academic skills. Our inquiry-based approach nurtures curiosity and supports the growth of key “soft skills” like cooperation and communication—laying a strong foundation for future success. As they explore and connect with others, our children become both problem finders and problem solvers, building grit and resilience along the way.
Our Pre-K children grow and learn in a print and literacy rich environment which has been thoughtfully designed to ignite their passion for reading, writing, and learning. Our individualized approach to literacy allows children to develop their language, literacy, and writing skills with an experience designed especially for them. Children explore literacy through reading, storytelling, dramatic play, and writing activities that build communication and comprehension. They develop phonemic awareness and use inventive spelling to express ideas creatively. Through inquiry-based learning and integrated STEAM experiences, teachers nurture curiosity, critical thinking, and growing independence.
